Angels Don't Know Karate (Adventures of the Bailey School Kids, 23)

Angels are entertaining though...
Angels Don't Know Karate by Debbie Dadey and Maria Thornton Jones
This story takes place in the school yard with friendly Eddie, Howie, Liza and Melody.
Eddie doesn't believe in angels. Eddie is double dared to climb a tree. He tries, but Eddid fell out of the tree, and is caught by a stranger. His friends try to convincehim that she was his guardian angel. The stranger hands them tickets to a karate demo to watch the stranger. The next day Melody believed the strangers angel Miss Michael was a guardian angel. The four friends spied on Miss Michaels for proof that she is an angel. They found no proof and she left the school. Melody still believed she was an angel but Eddie didn't because angels don't do karate.
I really liked the book because it was about an angel. I think that everyone that believes in angels like I do would really like the story. If you don't believe in angels you might change your mind after you read this book.

my favorite book
The book was a really good book. I'm happy there are a lot of different kinds of books by the same author. I have'nt got a chance to read them all.But from all the books I've read so far. I think other kids would like to read it, or read allof the books by Debbie Thorton I love her books. The characters are really curious there always trying to solve mysteries.

Flying Foot Mania
I really liked this book because it was so athletic. My favorite part was when Eddy fell off of the tree and Angela grabbed his ankle before he hit the ground. They got free passes for karate lessons after Eddy fell. It is very rare to fall and not be caught. This is the#1 best book.
If I were any of you kids out there I would really, really, really, ... want to read this extremely good book. This book was so good that when I was reading the last chapter, I couldn't sleep until I finished. Read this book. You won't regret it. Everybody loves these Bailey School Kids books! THEY ROCK!

Customer Service for Dummies (For Dummies)
Published in Paperback by Hungry Minds, Inc (06 December, 1995)
Authors: Keith Bailey and Karen Leland
Average review score:

A good all round resource.
This is a good resource, no matter if you have your first survey to do or have a complex service problem to fix - there is some commonsense advice on the whole range between these.

For new or infrequent practitioners of surveys and service activities, this is a valuable resource - worth reading before you buy the more complex books.

This Book has hidden treasure.
There is no way just reading this book will turn you into a customer service professional. But it does contain hidden treasures for those who already our customer service professionals. I was able to take advantage of the preprinted forms in the chapter called "Taking your Company's Pulse: How to Survey Your Customers".

I was grateful for the chapter called " You're Never Too Old (or young) to Learn: Service Training"

This review was dictated using the ViaVoice (ASIN: B000031KIZ) with minor corrections by Microsoft Word.

Kudos for Customer Service for Dummies
I chose this book mainly because of its inviting format. Like so
many of the "Dummies" books, it's fun to read. Participants in my
customer service seminars heartily agree. I especially like the
summarizing "Cheat Sheets" of key points inside the front cover ... and the section on how to receive, not just give, good service. The cartoons and brief chapters also help make this a page turner. Fairly priced, too.

BEAUTIFUL FANTASY.....
The idea of forbidden love is exciting. In this story Sira who is a faerie falls inlove and marries Conn a mortal against her father Boadach king of the faeries, and by doing so she becomes a mortal herself.Sira having lost all her powers struggles hard and does her best to adjust in her new life with her husband and his family. This book is full of fantasy, love and sacrifice, wonderful read.

Enchanting!
I thoroughly enjoyed this enchanting novel. Sira is a delightful character, and if I were a man, I'd would've fallen in love with her, too. I'm thrilled to see that Ms. Bailey has written a sequel to this story, "Kissed by Starlight." I can't wait to read it.

A fairy tale that is magical
The combination of magic, fantasy and love with the colliding of two different worlds makes for a great read. The authors imaginative descriptions and use of language were a delight to read. Hated to see the book come to an end.

Martians Don't Take Temperatures (Adventures of the Bailey School Kids, 18)

Great !!
I almost red the whole bailey kids series. All the books are cool !! I like this one just as I like the other 30(About, not exacly). They were all cool. I dont want to tell you what it is about but you should read it. If you like it I suggest you read the other 40 books.

PS YOU MUST JUST MUST BUY IT !!!!!

Strange tales from Bailey Elementary!
Strange occurences are becoming pretty, well... NORMAL at Bailey Elementary School. This time a huge dust storm blows into town, and suddenly appearing at the school is a squat, greenish-haired woman who's come to be the new nurse.

For someone who has gone to nursing school, though, she certainly doesn't seem to know much about health: first off, she seems to have forgotten that kids need to drink water!! Secondly, she has a very strange eye chart with symbols that don't resemble English letters at ALL!! Besides, what do all those weird words she says all the time really mean? You don't suppose she could be a MARTIAN, do you??

This book marks the 18th in the popular Bailey School Kids series. Each book introduces some strange sort of person who could (or maybe, could NOT) be a supernatural creature. It's a fast paced series with the gang typically throwing insults at each other, "we'd better go in before Liza sneezes her head off". Many books in the series are creepy, some are fun and silly. "Martians Don't..." lies somewhere in between. The characters are silly, but if there really IS a martian coming down to earth to invade the planet, wouldn't you be a bit wigged out??

A good choice for an intermediate reader, these books are well illustrated and the text is large and easy to read. An advanced reader (like an adult) can get through one in about 45 minutes or less, making them good choices for storytimes. Many of the books can be applied to different holidays or seasons ("Santa Claus Doesn't Mop Floors" or "Cupid Doesn't Flip Hamburgers", for instance).

It's a fun series even for older students and children (I've read about 30 of them, most of which I've not even used in class!!) and definitely worth checking out.

Martians Don't Take Temperature
I have picked out this book because I think this book is the best book I have read this quater. The book is called Martians Don't Take Temperature. It is about four friends named Liza,Melody Howie and Eddie. Howie thinks that the new school nurse is a martian, but liza didn't believe in him. They have been noticing the school nurse use different words to take tempreatures. I choose this book as my favorite book because it reminds me of me and my four friends. We used to hang out together.I would like to recommend this book to the people who like to have fun.

Great Book!
Just to get the facts straight this is one of the influential books that Tupac Shakur read when he was 17 years old. It was not "Ponder This". A great read anyway a must pick-up...

Very interesting book
Also this isn't the book Tupac read at 17 it was "Ponder This" by LA Mackay Not "Ponder On This" he was into poetry. But there both great books

A Great Guide
In a world in which there are so many books written to help us understand more about ourselves and the universe, Ponder on This is a book like no other. Containing excerpts taken from 30+ books dictated by a Tibetan master to Alice Bailey, this book has answers - and profound questions - for anyone who truly aspires to know more about the world in which we live, and our potential for living a spiritual existence.

If you are a soul seeking the path, or on the path seeking direction, this is a wonderful book to have. I guarantee that if this is your first Bailey book, it won't be your last.

BAILEY ON MY OWN PARTY OF FIVE 1
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Simon Pulse (November, 1997)
Author: Megan Stine
Average review score:

Liquid Courage
I really enjoyed hearing Bailey's feelings about his growing alcohol problem, but found it very short, and lacking details. I would really like to see someone, possibly a fan write a book going into more detail about it and possibly putting it on the web. I did like how the author accurately stuck to the episodes. Bailey gives us a look into the eyes of someone completely oblivious to their problem. But my question is, if he needed the alcohol so bad that he'd do anything for it, how could he not have known that something was wrong? In the book he is completely shocked that his siblings planned an intervention to confront him. Hasn't he ever heard of that kind of thing before? In parts, the book seemed a little unrealistic, but at the same time I find Bailey a character that I can relate to. I only wish that the book would progress slower and portray Bailey's alcoholism with more dinamics and drama.

A rare and precious tv - tie-in book
Party of Five at its best was like this book. Dealing with teenager-to-adult transitions. All the wounds and drugs and evil that gets carelessly done to one's loved ones. It's a shame the show had to deviate from this and die a slow death.
But Bailey's character's struggles and occasional triumphs are an inspiration and a let-down and yet again an inspiration...
Just like a certain television series that was.

THIS BOOK WAS AWSOME!!
I thought that this book was soooo good! I hope that they keep making more, because I want to read about the Salingers!

Death's Favorite Child
Published in Hardcover by Overmountain Press (March, 2001)
Author: Frankie Y. Bailey
Average review score:

Mediocre at best ...
Although I'm hardly seeking stark realism, this plot was hopelessly contrived, with everyone visiting an English B&B somehow involved in each other's bedrooms/murders. Since the main character is black, I was looking forward to a mystery along the lines of John Ball, Eleanor Bland, Chassie West, MK Wren, etc., where the African-American heritage greatly enhanced the plot and setting. Alas, this character could have been a purple dinosaur for all the references. The main character is Lizabeth(Lizzie) Stuart, the illegitimate daughter of a black woman who abandoned her after giving birth, and who was raised by her grandparents in Drucilla, Kentucky -- but that's all we ever learn about her background. Since Lizzie has a PhD, it could have been a great mystery involving a successful black role model -- but no such luck. The book takes place in England, involving a far-fetched, hopelessly contrived mystery and unfathomable number of "coincidences" at the B&B. Moreover, most of the book involves conversations, which I found very annoying and distracting. In short, this was a huge disappointment.

WOW!!
What a wonderful mystery. This one had me guessing to the very end. Not only does Frankie Bailey keep you guessing in "Death's Favorite Child," she also makes you beg for more at the end of the novel with three of her main characters at pivotal points in their lives.

African-American crime professor, Lisabeth (Lizzie)Stuart is beginning a week-long vacation at a small bed and breakfast hotel in St. Regis on the Cornish Coast of England with her former college roommate, Tess, now a travel writer. Of course, our Lizzie, the ceribral spinster doesn't expect to witness the murder of a young woman and then put herself in danger or become attracted to a white Philadelphia homicide detective, John Quinn. Nevertheless,

New Crime Solving Woman of Color!
Frankie Bailey is an academic who has managed to incorporate her love of crime fiction and films into her work as a criminologist. Death's Favorite Child, her debut novel, introduces us to a new crime-solving woman of color. Lizzie Stuart's quick wit and zest for seeking the truth immediately draws the reader to her personality.

"A loud eruption of a sneeze, followed by another, and then a third...

Not that I could expect any good to come of sneezing on Sunday. "You gonna spend the whole week trying to keep one step ahead of the devil ..." ... Excerpt from Chapter 1

Lizzie remembers her grandmother's words when she witnesses a murder during her vacation in St. Regis, England. She spends the rest of her vacation putting together the pieces of a puzzle that don't quite fit. Disturbingly the pieces include her best friend and other guests in the hotel. In the midst of her puzzle-solving quest, Lizzie's life becomes a game to someone else.

Bailey does a magnificent job of developing the character, Lizzie Stuart. Even a romance is subtly introduced between the "prudish" Lizzie and a fellow American who seems to serve as a "guardian" angel with perfect timing. After reading this book, readers will definitely want future installments featuring Lizzie Stuart's crime-solving ventures.

The Irish Bride (Irish Eyes Romance Series)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Jove Pubns (February, 2001)
Author: Lynn Bailey
Average review score:

Not a bad book, just not a great one either.
I read the Irish Devil, and this does not compare. I will try another Lynn Bailey book to make sure this just wasn't a fluke. Don't misunderstand, if you don't have anything else, read it. it is just too predictable without any extras to make it worthwhile. I thought Nicholas and Rietta deserved a better story or at least a more adventerous one.

Terrific story!
Sir Nicholas Kirwan was happy the war with France was over and was returning home. On the roadside he met the beautiful lady, Miss Blanche Ferris, and her stand offish sister, Rietta. From his childhood friend, David Mochrie, he learned much about the sisters. Blanche could do no wrong while Rietta abused her father and sister. Yet for David to get his dream of marrying Blanche, someone had to agree to wed the shrew, Rietta first since she was the eldest. Nick refused, until he found out how much his mother and sisters needed money. Knowing Rietta to come with a large dowry, he agreed to meet her.

Contrary to all he had been told, he found Blanche to be a spoiled air head. However, Rietta was intelligent, pretty in her own way, and not the least bit a shrew. Agreeing to marry her was not a problem, but getting her to agree to wed him was!

***** Lots going on in this one! Getting past the marriage is the hard part, but much went on after it too! A well written story to make its readers sigh out loud. Terrific reading here!

A Book so Wonderful...
THE IRISH BRIDE is my thrid favorite book in the IRISH ROMANCE SERIES (of which I own all the books). It is topped only by THE IRISH DEVIL and THE BLACK SWAN. This book I read about two years ago and I saw it here and couldn't believe how much of an impression it left upon me. I recalled all of the characters and the plot to the point of Lynn Bailey's pencil.

Rietta is a intelligent and beautiful woman, howsever strained beneath the knowledge that no man loves her without getting to her sister fist. Nick plays a man in desparate need for money and Rietta's father i8s in a deparate need to marry of Rietta (not because of fatherly love.) Nick strikes a deal with the father for perposes I cannot explain here, for ruining the plot is terrible in a such a wonderful book. In force, they are married.

And soon, they begin to do the one thing Nick feared and longed for and the one thing Rietta hid from while screamed for.

They fell in love.

THE IRISH BRIDE shall always have a place in my heart. It is still sexy but centers around something that I thought a lot of romance books didn't: LOVE! You see, this book was not about the sex but the romance and love. That is a major part in THE IRISH BRIDE. So please, read this book and see just how magical Ireland can feel. And feel just how many twists and turns love can conquer.

Kissed by Starlight (Magical Love Series)
Published in Paperback by Jove Pubns (May, 1999)
Author: Lynn Bailey
Average review score:

Pretty good, not great
I actually picked this one up from a half-price table. I'm more of a "like a love story in my sci/fi-fantasy" novels than a "like sci/fi-fantasy in my romance" novels kind of reader so that might be why I found it a tad on the light and frothy side. (Not enough pages for a gal used to trilogies!) Not a bad book at all though, I'm glad I bought it.

Excellent!!
I really liked this book. The story was wonderful and the characters were fascinating. I loved how the story developed and I really loved the ending. It had just the right combination of magic and romance to keep you intriged and the story flowed very smoothly. It was never slow. I recommed this book to anyone that likes a good faerie story. Very enchanting. Hope you enjoy.

One of My Favorites, Full of Tension and Suspense
In the late 18th century, Felicia Starret's uncertain future takes a turn for the worse when her father, the Viscount Stavely, dies. Because she is his illegitimate daughter, Felicia has been figuratively thrown to the wolves with no one left to protect her. Soon, however, she has the unbelievably good fortune to release, albeit unknowingly, a "fairie" from his stone prison.

This "fairie" (he really hates being called that) is Blaic, a prince of his people, who was cursed after helping his king's daughter escape. Blaic is thrilled when he is released from the stone, and rushes back to the Living Lands, only to find out that the curse is not yet lifted. He still needs Felicia.

As they spend more time together, Felicia and Blaic fall in love, but because Felicia is human, they cannot touch without obligation -- a "fairie" is bound to fulfil the wish of any human they come into physical contact with. This makes for great sexual tension between the two characters, and gives the book that extra zing that warrants five stars.

The novel also works in its basic plot, that of Felicia struggling to live her life on her terms, outside, and in spite of, what everyone thinks of her and tells her about herself.

This book has it all -- spells, girls fallen under enchantments, a wicked stepmother, a charming prince, and a heroine that goes from the cinders to the palace. You will get caught up Felicia's odyssey and the romance between her and Blaic, wish the stepmother to hot, firey place, and be satisfied at the ending. A wonderful escapist read that I highly recommend.

Preston Bailey's Design for Entertaining: Inspiration for Creating the Party of Your Dreams
Published in Hardcover by Bulfinch Press (November, 2002)
Authors: Preston Bailey, Roger Dong, Kirk Kirkbride, and Marie Timell
Average review score:

Too much!
I was very disappointed. Beautiful photographs of garish subjects that the average person couldn't possibly duplicate made it almost ridiculous. I love museums and that's what this book reminded me of. You can look, enjoy and appreciate but can't take it home and use it. Thumb through it at a store and save your money.

Gorgeous and inspiring
The photography is gorgeous, the ideas are inspiring - overall, a solid portfolio of some of the best designing in the world. It not only provides a glimpse into the over-the-top world of haute couture weddings and fetes, but also provides details and inspirational ideas for anyone. A can-do attitude combined with a book that is well written, beautifully conceived and flawlessly executed. Well done, Mr. Bailey.

Fabulous!
It was exactly as it said...a resource for creating the party of your dreams. If you're the type of person who thinks buffalo wings is a party staple...it's not for you.
